SHOOTING AT WHITE HOUSE! (plus a small virtual tour of the National Mall)

Do YOU take American history?

Did YOU go to the Washington trip?

Well then lucky you! You witnessed the shooting at the White House!

So people in my grade who went to Washington, by coincidence, witnessed a shooting near the White House! Friends of mine who saw it said that the police REALLY took it SERIOUSLY. They had helicopters and many police cars all in one street!

Anyways, now that the suspect has been captured, I guess that whole thing is over! And since it's over, I guess it's the perfect time to walk about the Washington trip (which I never went to because I don't take the course... but oh well! At least I still sit in the class, and besides; I went to The Mall in a video-game!)

The Mall in Real Life

The Mall in the video-game that I played!

The game, Fallout 3, takes place in a post-apocalyptic post-nuclear war United States! And you are in Washington D.C., now called "Capital Wasteland".

Fun Facts:
Did you know that D.C. in Washington D.C. stands for "District of Columbia"?
Did you know that Washington D.C. is not a state at all, but a federal district? (which is why we don't have 51 stars in the U.S. flag!)
Did you know that the material used to build the Washington monument was marble brought from Maryland?
 
I think everyone who did or didn't go to Washington should play the game! It really teaches you a lot about the United States of America, the geography of the national mall, and loads of history!
 
Do you want to see some buildings in and near the mall? I sure do! Let's start!

It's Thomas Jefferson!
 
The Jefferson memorial is located near the Mall and obviously, honours and commemorates the third president of the US of A, Thomas Jefferson!
Fun Fact: He purchased Louisiana from France! Also, this Louisiana purchase didn't just purchase the landsize of the modern-day Louisiana state that we all know; "Louisiana" in the Louisiana purchase was a massive strip of land that was from south of present day America all the way up near Canada!
Fun Fact: Jefferson's face is on Mount Rushmore!

 Oh hai thar! It's just Honest Abe! (that's his nickname).
 
The Lincoln memorial is located in the Mall, and commemorates the guy who saved the U.S. from being permanently torn apart from the Civil War! He also was the guy who proclaimed the Emancipation Proclamation!
Fun Fact: Did you ever notice how the Lincoln Memorial is coincidentally sitting similarly like the Statue of Zeus, one of the Ancient Wonders of the World?
 
 It's the National Archives!
 
The National Archives is located in the Mall and holds some of the most important documents of all time in American History! e.g. the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, etc.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Mother Canada
